Mustang Wheelchair Basketball Goes 1-1 Over the Weekend

The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team earned a split over the weekend falling 55-53 to the Milwaukee Bucks and defeating the Junior Timberwolves 70-32 on Saturday afternoon. SMSU is now 11-8 overall on the season. 

The Mustangs had four players reach double-digits in points against the Bucks on Saturday. Jake Williams led that group finishing with 17 points. David Nelson pitched in with 14 points while Savoy Brown and Kyle Timmerman each added 11.

Brown added eight assists on the night while Williams dished out six helpers. SMSU shot 38.7 percent from the field in the game while the Bucks shot 46.4 percent in the game, after shooting 54.8 percent in the first half.

Jake Tews played 40 minutes of strong basketball for the Mustangs against the Bucks, forcing the opponent into making tough shots.

Williams scorched the Junior T'Wolves for 34 points in SMSU's second game of the day. Nelson and Brown each added 12 points for the Mustangs and Timmerman poured in 10. Williams and Brown both picked up three steals in the game while Williams dished out seven assists.

The Mustangs will return to action on Saturday, March 5 hosting the Junior Timberwolves in two games beginning at 1 p.m. in Marshall.
