Wheelchair Basketball Finishes Sixth at National Tournament

ARLINGTON, Tex. - The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team finished the 2010-11 season this weekend going 1-2 at the National Wheelchair Basketball Tournament which was hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington, in Arlington, Tex. SMSU finishes its season with a record of 14-10.

The Mustangs opened the tournament with a 61-51 loss to host University of Texas-Arlington on Thursday night. The Mustangs were led by Jake Williams who was 12 of 25 shooting, including 6 of 11 from 3-point range for 30 points. Savoy Brown was the only other Mustang to hit double-digits in the loss finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds.

Southwest Minnesota State bounced back with a 43-28 win over Edinboro University on Friday morning. Brown and Kyle Timmerman led the Mustangs in scoring with 14 points each. The both finished with a double-double with Timmerman grabbing 12 rebounds and Brown with 14. Williams finished with 13 points for SMSU while Derek Klinkner finished with two.

With its season on the line Southwest Minnesota State fought hard against the University of Missouri on Friday afternoon losing 60-54 in overtime. Willimas once again led the way with 26 points while David Nelson was the only other Mustang in double-digits with 12 points. Brown grabbed 13 rebounds in the game while Timmerman hauled in 12 boards. Klinkner also finished in double-digits with 10 rebounds.

Southwest Minnesota State finishes its season with a sixth place finish in the national tournament and a record of 14-10 on the season.
