GAME 1 BOX SCORE
GAME 2 BOX SCORE

ST. CLOUD, Minn. –
St. Cloud State used a pair of big innings to earn a 12-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in game one of a doubleheader and then completed the sweep, taking advantage of SMSU errors, to earn a 5-1 victory in game two.

Today's doubleheader was originally scheduled to be played in Marshall, but was moved to Putz Field in St. Cloud due to poor field conditions in Marshall.

In game one, SCSU (17-3, 5-1 NSIC) opened a scoreless game in the top of the third as Joey Benke belted a grand slam off of SMSU (7-10, 3-3 NSIC) starter Aaron Johnson to give the Huskies a 4-0 advantage.

SCSU, which is ranked nationally in several national polls, added another run in the fourth, before putting the game away with seven-run fifth inning to build a 12-0 lead.

Ben Korger scored SMSU's lone run of the game on a wild pitch in the seventh inning.

Johnson dropped to 1-1 on the season with the loss, pitching the first four-plus innings, allowing seven runs, five earned, on nine hits, with two walks and two strikeouts.

Brian Ness led SMSU's eight-hit attack with a pair of hits.

In game two, SMSU jumped to an early lead in the second inning as Tyler Flattum singled and moved to second on a walk by Jordan Kontz. Chris Eichten then followed with an RBI single to give SMSU a 1-0 lead.

Mustang starting pitcher Tyler Jendro, making his first start on the mound in a SMSU uniform, kept SCSU scoreless until the sixth, when the Huskies plated two runs, both unearned, to take a 2-1 lead.

SCSU added to the lead in the seventh scoring two more runs, including another unearned run, to build a 4-1 lead.

Jendro tossed 6.2 innings, allowing four runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out two. He did walk five and hit two SCSU batters, while falling to 2-1 on the season.

Tyler Fayden and Flattum each finished 2 for 4 to pace the Mustang offense, which finished with eight hits.

SMSU will now have six days off before returning to action on Tuesday, April 12, with a conference twinbill at Augustana. SMSU is not scheduled to open its home season until Saturday, April 16.
