CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team went 1-2 on Saturday picking up an 84-31 win over the University of Edinboro before falling 72-33 to the University of Illinois and 95-31 against the University of Texas-Arlington in Champaign, Ill.
Jake Williams poured in 40 points in SMSU's lone win of the day. He was 17 of 31 from the floor, including 3 of 6 from 3-point range.
Derek Klinkner and
Kyle Timmerman both recorded double-digits for the Mustangs. Klinkner finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while Timmerman added 10 points and five rebounds.
Raymone Brown added eight points, six boards and three assists while
David Nelson picked up six points for the Mustangs. SMSU shot 55 percent (39 of 70) in the game while holding Edinboro to 40 percent from the field.
The Mustangs fell behind early against Illinois, trailing 37-17 at halftime. Williams led the Mustangs with 15 points and six boards.
Josh Scanlon finished the game 3 of 9 from the field finishing with six points while adding a steal for SMSU.
SMSU shot just 23 percent (14 of 61) from the field against Texas-Arlington. UTA was red-hot finishing the game shooting 64 percent from the field.
Raymone Brown and Williams both finished with nine points while Klinkner added six points and Timmerman pitched in with five in the loss.
The Mustangs will take on Illinois tomorrow at 10:45 a.m. to wrap-up their four-game road trip to Champaign, Ill.
