Mustang wheelchair basketball drops first four games of the season

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team began the season with four games against the University of Illinois in two days. The Mustangs fell in all four contests against the Illini men's and women's team.

The Illinios women's team beat SMSU 51-49 in the Mustangs' season opener on Friday at the PE Gym. David Nelson's 24 points led SMSU in the losing effort, while Savoy Brown added 13 points.

SMSU then took on the Illinois men later Friday night and fell 58-28. Brown led with 13 of the Mustangs' points.

On Saturday, the Mustangs played the same two teams, starting with the Illini women. The Illinois women again won a close contest, 57-53. Nelson had 22 points in the loss, and Brown scored 21.

In the final game of the weekend versus the Illini men, SMSU lost 56-29. Brown led the way for SMSU with 14 points.
