The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team resumes Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, taking on Winona State with tip-off slated for 6 p.m. at McCown Gym. SMSU will then battle Upper Iowa on Saturday, Jan. 5, with game time slated for 6 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Southwest Minnesota State dropped its twelfth straight game to Minnesota State, Mankato on Dec. 14, as the Mustangs lost 86-56. SMSU shot 40.4 (21-52) percent from the field in the game but committed 22 turnovers in the contest.
Rebekah Rolling had a career-high 17 points to lead the Mustangs in the loss.
Alison Nagel contributed with 13 to round out SMSU's double-figure scorers.
The Mavericks boasted five players reach double-digit scoring and were led by Karlee Gengenbacher's game-high 22 points. Minnesota State shot 47.7 percent as a unit (31-65). Minnesota State pulled away in the second half as the Mavericks outscored the Mustangs in the second half, 50-27.
On Dec. 15, SMSU shot just 25 percent from the floor and scored only 20 points in the second half in its 81-59 loss to Concordia-St. Paul at the R/A Facility. Three Mustangs recorded double-digit scoring, led by
Bree Holleman's 14 points.

Ellen Degler both added 10 points for the Mustangs. Concordia outscored SMSU 39-20 in the second half. SMSU had a tough time slowing down CU's Anika Whiting as she netted a career-high 29 points in the contest. The Mustangs shot 59.3 percent from the floor, including 66.7 percent from 3-point range in the first half but turnovers proved problematic as CU had 14 points off SMSU's 11 first half turnovers.
