COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team dropped three games over the weekend, dropping the Mustangs to 11-12 on the season.
Kyle Timmerman's 15 points led the Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team in its 67-39 loss to the University of Texas-Arlington on Friday.
On Saturday, former Mustang, Jake Williams, knocked down three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 30 points to lead Wisconsin-Whitewater past SMSU, 73-61. Williams finished 12-for-20 from the field and also tallied eight assists.
David Nelson's 21 points paced the Mustangs in the loss, while
Derek Klinkner tallied a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Timmerman was solid as he finished with 15 points, five rebounds and five assists.
Later in the day, the Mustangs hung with the Missouri Tigers early but fizzled in the second half as SMSU dropped its third straight game. Again, Nelson led the Mustangs, scoring 16 points, while Klinkner recorded 16 points. Timmerman finished with seven points and a team-high eight rebounds.
"What hurt us this weekend was we couldn't put our best five players on the floor together given the classification restrictions and the 14-point limit, but that shouldn't take away from the kids' effort this weekend, it was really phenomenal," SMSU head coach Lew Shaver said.
