SMSU wheelchair basketball team drops four games over the weekend

WHITEWATER, Wis. - The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team opened the 2013-14 season with four losses this weekend in Whitewater, Wis.

On Friday, SMSU lost 50-33 to Edinboro (Pa.), before losing 80-34 to UT-Arlington. In the loss to Edinboro, David Evjen and Derek Klinkner each led the Mustangs with 12 points, while David Nelson chipped in with seven. In the setback to UTA, Nelson poured in a team-high 17 points with Evjen adding 13.

On Saturday, SMSU opened with a 67-36 loss to UW-Whitewater, before closing the day with a 61-39 defeat to Missouri. Klinker paced the Mustangs with 14 points in the loss to UWW, while Nelson (12) and Evjen (10) each scored in double figures. In the closing game, Nelson led the way with 17 points.

SMSU (0-4) will resume play Dec. 6-7 at the University of Missouri Tournament.
