LINCOLN, Neb. – The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team earned three victories this past weekend at the two-day tournament hosted by the Madonna Magic.
SMSU opened play on Saturday with a 50-34 loss to Madonna with
Derek Klinkner leading the way for the Mustangs with 16 points. SMSU rebounded to earn its first win of the season later in the day with a 53-47 victory over the Sioux Falls Wheelers.
David Nelson poured in 24 points with
David Evjen (13) and Klinkner (10) each reaching double figure scoring.
SMSU continued its winning ways on Sunday defeating the Rollin' Timberwolves 52-38 and Iowa 45-24. Nelson paced the Mustangs with 18 points in the win over the Timberwolves, while Klinkner added 14 points and Evjen with 12. In the blowout win over Iowa, Klinkner (14) and Nelson (10) led the way for SMSU each scoring in double figures.
SMSU, 3-9 overall, returns to action on Jan. 17-18, 2014, at the University of Illinois Tournament with four games scheduled.
