The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball (4-20, 2-16 NSIC) finishes its five-game homestand as the Mustangs conclude the home schedule with Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference contests versus Wayne State College (14-8, 10-8 NSIC) on Friday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. before hosting Augustana (17-5, 13-5 NSIC) on Saturday, Feb. 16, with game time set for 5 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY - Augustana leads 20-11
Southwest Minnesota State and Augustana will meet for the 28th time in a series that dates back to the 1969-70 season. The Vikings hold a 20-11 advantage over the Mustangs, including 8-7 on the road. The Vikings currently ride a four game winning streak over the Mustangs as SMSU's last win over Augustana came on Dec. 3, 2010. The win was head coach
Allison Kruger's first NSIC victory in her first attempt since taking over the Mustang program. SMSU has dropped 11 of its last 12 games versus Augustana including SMSU's 79-44 loss to Augustana earlier this season on Dec. 7. The loss
tied the largest defeat SMSU has suffered in the series with the 78-43 loss on Dec. 31, 2006.
SERIES HISTORY - Wayne State leads 25-18
Wayne State holds 25-18 edge over Southwest Minnesota State in a series that dates back to the 1991-92 season. The Wildcats have built a seven-game winning streak over the Mustangs, including the 66-61 win over the Mustangs earlier this season on Dec. 8. The Mustangs last defeated the Wildcats, 67-62 at Rice Auditorium on Feb. 25, 2009. SMSU is 12-10 versus Wayne State at home in the series, the last SMSU home victory came during the 2004-05 season (67-58).
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT / FIRST GAME RECAP- WAYNE STATE
Wayne State is averaging 63.2 points per game (12th NSIC) and are led by Jordan Spencer who is averaging 16 points per game (6th NSIC). Wayne State has relied more so on its defense this year as the Wildcats hold opponents to an average of 57.5 points per game which ranks third best in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. The Wildcats started out the year ranked but has since fizzled having lost eight games and currently sit in seventh place in the 16-team NSIC. Augustana is averaging a league best 76.3 points per game and are led by Alex Feeney who is averaging 15.1 points per game (8th NSIC). The potent Viking offense is complimented with the NSIC's fourth best scoring defense, allowing just 58.5 points per game. Augusta is within the NSIC's top five in nearly every offensive and defensive category including No. 1 in scoring offense, field goal percentage defense, rebounding offense, scoring margin, assists, and defensive rebounds.
