MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team went 2-1 over the weekend versus the Minnesota Rolllin' Timberwolves.
The Mustangs took the first contest 42-30 with
David Nelson leading the way with a team-high 12 points. Nelson would lead the Mustangs in game two as well but this time SMSU fell 60-54. The Mustangs couldn't stop Master Hinkle, who poured in 30 points for the T-Wolves. It was the first loss that the Mustangs had suffered to the T-Wolves this season.
In game three, the Mustangs rebounded with a 52-40 win. The Mustangs were led by
Derek Klinkner as he netted 16 points, while
Savoy Brown had 12,
David Nelson finished with 10 and
Kyle Timmerman with eight. This time, SMSU limited Master Hinkle to just 17 points. With the win, SMSU took five of the six meetings featuring the two teams.
SMSU finished the regular season 13-13, its first .500 season since the 2010-11 season. The Mustangs will ready for the National Intercollegiate Wheechair Basketball Tournament that takes place in Tuskaloosa, Ala. from March 7-10.
