MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University Mustang Booster Club recently held the 28th annual David & Carol Drown SMSU Golf Classic on June 14-15, raising scholarship dollars for Mustang student-athletes.
The annual event helped raise nearly $20,000, as individuals participating in the event enjoyed lunch and supper both days, while a silent auction was available to purchase great items and help raise scholarship dollars. On the course, golfers had the opportunity to participate in a number of activities to win great prizes.
“Events such as the golf classic are a vital to the success of SMSU Athletics in helping raise scholarship dollars for deserving student-athletes,” said
Tim Steinbach, SMSU athletic development director and executive director of the Mustang Booster Club. “We want to thank everyone for participating in this year's golf classic.”
For the third straight year, the Drown SMSU Golf Classic featured two 18-hole tournaments, with a total of 49 five-member teams participating. On June 14, 35 teams played at Marshall Golf Club with the team of Tim Deutz, CJ Haukom, Doug Krogen, Tom McLaughlin and Chad Michelson winning the championship with a round of 52.
On June 15, 14 teams participated at Tyler Golf Club with the team of Bill Reilly, John Claggett, Rick Homan, Tom Homan and Tom Gruhot earning the team championship carding a round of 54.
One of the highlights of the event was a hole-in-one carded by Chad Drake on hole No. 6 at Marshall Golf Club on Friday.
