MARSHALL, Minn. -- Southwest Minnesota State held Bemidji State's leading scorer, Kate Warmack, to just five points, while Mikayla Saathoff poured in 14 points and dished out 13 assists in the Mustangs' 76-64 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win at home on Friday. Saathoff finished just one assist away from tying SMSU's single-game assist record of 14, which was set by Megan Stadler on Feb. 6, 2010, versus Minnesota Crookston.

SMSU improves to 4-15 overall, 2-13 in the NSIC, with both wins coming at home.

BSU remains winless on the road in NSIC contests this season (0-8), as the Beavers' record falls to 8-11 overall, 4-11 in the NSIC. Warmack entered the weekend as the NSIC's fourth highest scorer with her average of 17.2 points per game.

Four Mustangs, including Saathoff, finished the game scoring in double-figures – Alison Nagel (14), Rebekah Rolling (11), and Annessa Rosch (11). SMSU's 23 assists tied a season-high on 30 made buckets. SMSU finished shooting 48.4 percent from the field (30 of 62), including 6 of 12 from downtown.

SMSU went into the half trailing 34-33 --The Mustangs entered the game 0-10 on the season in games in which they trailed at the break. BSU, on the other hand, entered the weekend 7-0 in games which the Beavers led. Saathoff didn't waste much time collecting assists as she had seven in the first half alone.

SMSU focused in on stopping BSU's leading scorer in the first half and did so successfully as Kate Warmack managed just two points. The lone bucket made by Warmack came at the 9:03 mark in the first half and was also her 1000th career point. Morgan Lee picked up the slack for the Beavers as she dumped 16 on SMSU in the first half.

With 10:17 remaining in regulation, SMSU found itself down 54-51, but a 13-4 run quickly changed that and SMSU took its first lead since the opening moments of the second half at the 7:51 mark. SMSU never looked back and Rosch's jumper with 1:46 left sealed the deal as the score padded SMSU's lead to 10.

The win snaps SMSU's three game losing streak and extends its winning streak over the Beavers at the R/A Facility to four straight dating back to Dec. 12, 2006. SMSU is now 22-12 at home versus BSU.

SMSU will host Minnesota Crookston tomorrow for Hawaiian Night. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear tropical themed gear to the game.
