SMSU soccer suffers loss to No. 18 Winona State

WINONA. Minn.— Southwest Minnesota State soccer team failed to find the back of the net again as it was shutout by No. 18 Winona State Sunday afternoon, 2-0 at Warrior Stadium.
 
SMSU (7-6-1, 6-4-1 NSIC) took eight shots in the match with four being on goal. Winona State (13-1, 10-1 NSIC) fired 20 shots, eight being on goal.
 
Winona State recorded seven shots in the first period, one of them being a goal from Mikaella Sabinash in the 10th minute to give the Warriors a 1-0. Meg Riebau tagged on another goal for Winona State in the 38th minute to increase the WSU lead, 2-0.
 
The Mustangs failed to score in the match as Autumn Hayes and Kendahl Fisher recorded two shots apiece with them both being on goal. Kylie Redmond also tallied a pair of shots.
 
Brienna Dehkes posted six saves on the day and moved to a 5-6-0 record this season.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will return home to host a pair of games next weekend. SMSU will host MSU Moorhead on Saturday at the new Marshall Regional Track & Field Complex on the campus of Southwest Minnesota State University at 12 p.m. On Sunday, the Mustangs will play Northern State at the Schwan Regional Event Center at 1 p.m.
