SMSU earns victory over MSU Moorhead on Saturday

MARSHALL, Minn. –
Kylie Redmond netted a pair of first half goals to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a 2-1 victory over MSU Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference soccer on Saturday.
 
The game was played at the new Marshall Regional Track & Field Complex. The game was relocated because the Schwan Regional Event Center was being used for high school football playoffs and SMSU football.
 
The victory snapped a two-game losing streak for SMSU and moves its record to 8-6-1 overall, 7-4-1 NSIC. MSUM drops to 3-11 overall, 2-10 NSIC.
 
Redmond started the scoring for SMSU in the 10th minute, connecting on her third goal of the season off a pass from Lizzy Bruder.
 
Redmond pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute with a long strike off a pass from Autumn Hayes for her fourth goal of the season, tying her for second on the team.
 
The Dragons answered with their lone goal late in the opening half to trim the deficit to 2-1 into halftime.
 
SMSU allowed just one shot on goal in the final 45 minutes to secure the victory.
 
Brienna Dehkes picked up the victory for SMSU in goal, making a pair of saves and improving to 6-6 on the season.
 
SMSU concludes its weekend homestand tomorrow taking on Northern State back at the Schwan Regional Event Center starting at 1 p.m.
