WAYNE, Neb. – Southwest Minnesota State scored a pair of first half goals and went on to defeat Wayne State 2-0 on Friday afternoon.
Kylie Redmond found the back of the net first for the Mustangs in the 9th minute to give SMSU the early lead. Kendahl Fisher assisted on the goal and is now tied for the school career assist record with 25. Lizzy Bruder tagged on another goal just a minute later to give the Mustangs a 2-0 lead going into the intermission.
Both teams were scoreless in the second half.
SMSU fired 14 shots in the game, with seven coming in the first half. Wayne State finished with six shots in the game.
Brienna Dehkes recorded her third shutout of the season and moved her record to 7-7.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to the Schwan Regional Even Center on Sunday for the final home game and regular season game against Augustana. Kickoff is set to be at 1 p.m.
