Mustangs shoot a season-low 25 percent in loss to Concordia-St. Paul

MARSHALL, Minn. -
Concordia-St. Paul held Southwest Minnesota State to a season-low 25 percent shooting from the field in the Golden Bears' 66-44 win over the Mustangs. The win was CU's second over SMSU this season and fourth straight dating back to the 2011 season.

SMSU struggled from the field all night long as the Mustangs connected on just 15 of their 60 shots from the field, including 2 of 13 from behind the arc.

Ameshia Kearney led the way for CU as she finished with a game-high 13 points. All 13 points for Kearney came in the first half.

Bree Holleman led SMSU with 11 points on 4 of 10 shooting – the only Mustang to score double-digits.

CU (20-8, 15-6 NSIC) held firm on the boards as the Golden Bears finished with a 51-36 rebounding advantage, including 17 on the offensive end.

In the first half CU suffocated SMSU to just 8 of 31 shooting, including 1 of 10 from behind the arc. Ameshia Kearney led CU offensively as the guard poured in 13 points in the first half on 4 of 8 shooting. CU built its lead to 15 points with an early 15-2 run. The lead blossomed to 21 with a Golden Bear 5-0 run to close the final 1:33 of the first half.

The Golden Bear lead never dipped below 18 points in the second half.

SMSU (4-21, 2-19 NSIC) will conclude the 2013-14 regular season tomorrow at the R/A Facility versus No. 20 Minnesota State. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. The game will be the final home game for SMSU's five seniors.
