Box ScoreMARSHALL, Minn. — Sarah Parker recorded 19 kills and hit .690—fourth highest in school history—to lead No.7 Southwest Minnesota State to a 25-12, 25-14, 27-25 sweep over Minnesota Crookston in the PE Gym on Friday night.
Sarah Parker took control of the Mustang offense as the sophomore floored 21 kills while hitting an impressive .690 in the match. Parkers hitting percentage ranks fourth in school history and the last time a Mustang hit over .675 was
Abbey Thissen in 2013.
Megan Larson dished out 28 assists in the victory while
Emilee Gutzmer contributed 14.
SMSU (8-5, 3-2 NSIC) hit .393 in the match while post 10 blocks on the night. Minnesota Crookston (7-6, 1-4 NSIC) hit .158 and recorded only three team blocks.
SMSU dominated the first set, starting out on an 11-1 run while hitting a match-high .571. The Mustangs led the entire set closing it, 25-14.
Set two, Minnesota Crookston started on a 2-0 run but
Sarah Parker and
Kenzie Beekman stepped in. Both Mustangs recorded two kills apiece and paired together for a block to give SMSU the lead. Parker tallied nine kills in the set to help close the set, 25-14.
In set three, UMC tried to get back in the game as they kept up with the Mustang offense. Minnesota Crookston took the led 24-23 late in the set but back-to-back kills by
Sarah Parker and
Claire Sames but the Mustangs back on top. UMC tried to retaliate but kills by
Eisha Oden and Sames finished the set and match 27-25. There was 20 tie scores and eight lead changes in the final set.
No.7 Southwest Minnesota State will continue NSIC action tomorrow afternoon as they host Bemidji State Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. in the PE Gym.
