Box Score MARSHALL, Minn.— Southwest Minnesota State earned its first victory of the season on Sunday afternoon dominating Nebraska-Kearney 6-1 at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
The Mustangs struck first in the competition as an assist by
Kendahl Fisher led to a
Justine Hauck goal in the 6
th minute.
Miranda Cadena added her share of goals, as the junior netted three more goals for the Mustangs and earned her second career hat trick. Cadena scored her first trick on Oct. 5, 2013, versus Bemidji State. SMSU led at intermission, 4-0.
In the second half,
Kylie Redmond and
Amanda Hartmann scored in the 61
st and 73
rd minute, respectively, to increase the Mustang lead, 6-0.
The only goal Nebraska-Kearney scored in the game was from Montanna Hosterman in the 84
th minute.
SMSU had 16 shots with 10 on goal. UNK had just six shots including three on goal.
The last time SMSU scored six goals in a game was on Sept. 14, 2004 in a shutout game versus Sioux Falls.
Southwest Minnesota State will travel to Mankato, Minn., on Friday, Sept. 12, to play 2013 reigning national champion, Grand Valley State (Mich.) for its last non-conference match.
