ST. PAUL — Concordia-St. Paul was too much for Southwest Minnesota State as the Golden Bears shot 56 percent and defeated the Mustangs, 82-46 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate women's basketball Saturday.
CU (11-8, 6-6 NSIC) finished shooting 56 percent from the floor including 33 percent from behind the arc. Anika Whiting lead all Golden Bears with 16 points, four rebounds, two assists and two blocks. Mishayla Jones contributed 14 points and also a team-high five assists. Ameshia Kearney made her mark cashing in 11 points including Amanda Barton with 10. Kayla Miller controlled the rebounds as she pulled down six and also swiped three steals.
SMSU (2-16, 2-11 NSIC) shot 24 percent from floor for the first time since playing Minot State earlier this season.
Annessa Rosch was the lone Mustang in double figures with 11 points.
Lauren Hedlund contributed nine points while
Emilee Duske and
Hope Bonlander had eight and seven, respectfully. Bonlander and
Ellen Degler lead the Mustangs with six rebounds a piece.
Concordia-St. Paul started the game with a dominating performance as they led 22-3 at 13:26 in the first half. The Golden Bears didn't stop there as they kept the comfortable lead through the half and led 44-17 going into halftime—largest of the half.
Turnovers were again a problem for the Mustangs in the first half as they turned the ball over 14 times in the opening frame.
After the break, CU continued it's dominating play as it pushed its lead to as many as 43 with 7:46 left in the game. The Golden Bears would hold off the Mustangs going down the stretch earning their second win of the weekend, 82-46.
Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team will return to the R/A Facility for a pair of matchups against St. Cloud on Friday night and Minnesota Duluth on Saturday.
