Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team took down Upper Iowa, 1-0 Saturday afternoon at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
The win marks just the second time the Mustangs defeated the Peacocks at home with their last and first home win coming back in the 2013 season.
Emily Huddleston gave the Mustangs the lead in the seventh minute as she scored her second goal of the season from passes from
Miranda Cadena and
Kylie Redmond.
The Mustang defense held, as they went on to shutout the Peacocks to record their sixth shutout of the season. SMSU recorded 11 shots with eight of them being on goal and chipped in six corner kicks.
Kristy Leopold started in goal for SMSU and picked up the win to improve to 5-3-1 this season. Leopold recorded three saves in the first 45 minutes before
Brienna Dehkes relieved her in the second period. Dehkes tallied four saves while seeing five shots and the Peacocks only corner kick.
Kylie Redmond paced the Mustangs with four shots with three being on goal.
Emily Huddleston added three shots with two being on goal, while
Miranda Cadena tallied a pair of shots both being on goal.
Southwest Minnesota State will stay at Mattke Field and face Winona State tomorrow at 1 p.m.
