MOORHEAD, Minn. – Miranda Cadena recorded her third career hat trick in leading Southwest Minnesota State to a 4-1 victory over MSU Moorhead in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action on Saturday.
The victory moves SMSU's unbeaten streak to a season-high four games with three victories and pushes SMSU to 7-6-1 overall, 7-4-1 in the NSIC. MSUM drops to 1-10-3 overall, 1-10-1 NSIC.
Cadena started the scoring in the eighth minute with an unassisted goal, before
Amanda Hartmann pushed the lead to 2-0 with a goal on an assists from
Kylie Redmond.
SMSU held a 2-0 lead into the second half before MSUM cut the lead in half with a goal in the 61
st minute.
The Mustangs quickly responded as Cadena scored in the 66
th minute and then scored less than a minute later to build the margin to 4-1.
Kristy Leopold earned the victory in goal, stopping all four shots in the opening half.
Brienna Dehkes played the second half and finished with two saves.
Southwest Minnesota State continues its weekend road trip tomorrow at Northern State starting at 1 p.m.
