NSU’s early goal drops SMSU on the road

ABERDEEN, S.D. —
The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team dropped a close match against Northern State, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at Jerde Field.
 
NSU improves to 7-8-1 overall and 5-6-1 in the NSIC, while SMSU falls to 7-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the conference. The loss is the fifth of the season for the Mustangs in games decided by one goal and the first in Aberdeen since 2008.
 
NSU's Allie Macdonald scored the lone goal in the game in the 13th minute to give the Wolves the advantage. The Mustangs tried to find the back of the net as they recorded 13 shots with five being on goal.
 
Miranda Cadena shot a team-high four shots with one being on goal while Kendahl Fisher added three shots and one on mark. Kara Whiting and Megan Kilroy both tallied a pair of shots with one being on goal.
 
Brienna Dehkes played the full 90 minutes in goal and grabbed five saves. She saw four corner kicks and also saw 15 shots from the Wolves. Dehkes falls to 2-3-1 on the season.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will enter its final weekend of regular season play 7-7-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the NSIC while tied for sixth place in the conference standings with 22 points. The Mustangs will travel to Augustana on Friday before closing the regular season out at home on Sunday against Wayne State for senior day.
