BISMARK, N.D. -The No. 4 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team pushed it's winning streak to 12 matches after defeating U-Mary, 3-1. The Mustangs won by scores of 20-25, 25-11, 25-8, 25-10.
SMSU improves to 21-3 overall and 14-2 in the NSIC, while U-Mary falls to 10-15 overall and 5-11 in the conference. The Mustangs have defeated the Marauders 15-straight times and remains undefeated in the series.
SMSU finished hitting at a .324 clip for its ninth time hitting .300 plus this season. Three Mustangs recorded double-digit kills as
Abbey Thissen led the effort with 15 kills while hitting .433 and tallied her fourth double-double of the season with 10 digs.
Claire Sames added 11 kills hitting .368 and
Sarah Parker contributed 10 kills and hit .350.
Taylor Reiss added a match-high four aces and eight kills.
Megan Larson paced the offense with 40 assists and 12 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
The Mustangs defense held the Marauders to a -.017 to record it's 17th time holding their opponent under a .200 mark.
Kenzie Beekman led the defense with 15 digs while Larson and Thissen added double-digit digs. Parker and Reiss controlled the net as they recoded a team-high four blocks apiece, while Sames added three.
Southwest Minnesota State will return to the PE Gym and face Winona State on Friday night before playing Upper Iowa on Saturday.
