MARSHALL, Minn. — The No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team blew past No. 24 Winona State Friday night 3-0 to defeat its seventh team that is ranked this season. Mustangs won by scores of 25-21, 25-21, 25-15.
SMSU improves to 22-3 overall and 15-2 in the NSIC, while WSU falls to 15-9 overall and 9-8 in the conference. The sweep marks the 13-striaght win for the Mustangs and its 13-striaght against Winona State.
The Mustangs offense—that finished hitting .306 in the match—was led by
Taylor Reiss who finished hitting at a .500 clip while grounding 14 kills in the sweep.
Abbey Thissen recorded her fifth double-double of the season as she recorded 11 kills and added 10 digs.
Megan Larson dished out a team-high 40 assists in the win.
SMSU again controlled the net as they held WSU to a .161 hitting percentage, which marks the 18th time the Mustang held their opponent under .200 this season. Reiss paved the way putting up seven rejections (two solo; five assists), while
Kenzie Beekman added four of her own. Beekman also added 10 digs, while
Whitney Burmeister led with 15.
Southwest Minnesota State will host its final regular season home match tomorrow against Upper Iowa beginning at 3 p.m.
