MARSHALL, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State women's basketball team struggled against No. 10 Fort Hays State as it suffered a 71-34 loss in the final game of the Applebee's Classic Saturday night in the R/A Facility.
SMSU falls to 0-2 on the season as it struggled to find the hoop, finishing shooting 26.8 percent and 6.7 percent from downtown.
Lauren Hedlund led all Mustang scorers with nine points with five of them coming from the charity stripe.
Annessa Rosch and
Hope Bonlander added seven points each.
Taylor Silva,
Taylor Holicky and Bondlander all tied with five boards apiece.
SMSU gave up the ball 26 times in the game, which FHSU turned into 26 points. The Tigers also controlled the paint as they cashed in 30 points in the box.
Southwest Minnesota State will host Nebraska-Kearney on Thursday night in a non-conference game starting at 6 p.m.
