MARSHALL, Minn. — Southwest Minnesota State came up short against MSU Moorhead, 25-15 on Saturday afternoon in the PE Gym. It was the final home bout for the Mustangs.
 
The Dragons started the scoring first as Shane Novak defeated Landyn VanOverbeke in the opening bout, 14-4. In the following bout, Jordan Biehn was pinned by Black Bosch at 1:10 to give MSUM a 10-0 lead.
 
The Mustangs came back in the next two bouts as Trent Butcher took down Philippe Walker with a 12-5 decisions followed by John Weeding earning a major decision over Austin Leibel to cut the Dragon lead to just three.
 
The Dragons bounced back and pushed their lead in the next two bouts with Garrett Hoffner defeating Patrick Kelley at 157 pounds with a 5-3 decision. Colton Vekved kept it close at 165 and fought back to put the bout to overtime but came up short falling by a 3-1 decision.
 
Jacob Begin continued his success as the senior recorded a tech. fall at 7:00 to cut the Dragon lead down to just 16-12 with four bouts left.
 
MSUM would let the Mustangs come close as they extended its lead the follow two bouts with a decision at 184 pounds and a fall at 197 to secure the win.
 
In the follow bout, Cole Wilson earn the last points in the dual with a 3-0 decision over Nader Abdullatif.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will travel to Concordia-Moorhead next week for its final dual before playoffs.
