Bemidji State takes down SMSU

BEMIDJI, Minn. —
 Bemidji State overcame a four-point deficit at half, to defeat Southwest Minnesota State, 62-51 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball Friday night.
 
SMSU (3-18, 3-14 NSIC) was held to just 26 percent from the floor (14 for 52) and 23 percent from behind the arc (3 for 13) in the loss. Lauren Hedlund led the Mustangs with her 12 points while recording a team-high seven rebounds while Annessa Rosch contributed with 10 points and dishing out three assists.
 
BSU (6-16, 3-14 NSIC) finished the night shooting 37 percent (22 for 59) from the floor and 22 percent (5 for 22) from 3-pointer.  Sierra Senske had a big night as she cashed in a team-high 16 points along with 11 boards. Aimmee Peizer made her mark with 10 points while handing out three assists. The Beavers snapped an eight-game losing streak in the win.
 
The Mustangs jumped out to a quick seven-point lead with 14:01 in the first half that was keyed from a 3-pointer by Rosch. SMSU went on to lead by eight at 16-8 with 11:36 left in the half after Amaun Frazier cashed a three.
 
The Beavers would cut the lead down to just a basket with 6:46 left in the half but the Mustangs would go on and lead by as many as eight with 3:30 left in the first. SMSU led 30-26 at the break.
 
The Beavers would go on to cut the Mustang lead down and take the lead at 12:42 left keyed from a 3-pointer by Tatum Sheley at 13:09. BSU would lead the rest of the game and push it's lead to 14 with 2:08 left in the game.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will continue its road trip as it heads to Minnesota Crookston tomorrow night for a 4 p.m. tipoff.
