CLERMONT, Fla., - The Southwest Minnesota State softball team opened up the Spring Games with a 3-1 win over Bentley University before defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 11-4 on Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs tagged on two more runs in the second inning to lead 3-0.
The Southwest Minnesota State defense was perfect through three innings with three straight 3-up 3-down's going into the top of the fourth.
Bentley scored a run in the top of the fourth to get on the board and that would be all that sophomore
Alex O'Connor would give up in the win.
O'Connor pitched the whole game improving her record to 3-1 and gave up just two hits and a run while tallying six strikeouts and no walks.
Kalkman finished going 2 for 3 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases whie
Karmann Carroll batted 2 for 3.
In the second game on Sunday afternoon, the Mustangs finished the opening-day sweep with a 11-4 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas College.
The Mustangs came out with a huge first inning as they had eight runs cross the plate. St. Thomas Aquinas scored in the bottom of the second inning but SMSU came back with a run of its own in the top of the third to increase its lead 9-1 after two innings.
The Mustangs added one more run in the third inning but STAC scored two more in the home half of the inning.
The Spartans scored a run in the fourth but the Mustangs retaliated with a run of their own in the top half of the fifth to lead 10-4.
The Mustangs added the last run of the game in the sixth to complete the opening-day sweep.
Madisson Chadwick pitched 5.1 innings in the win and is 1-1 this season. Chadwick gave up four hits and one run to 19 batters faced.
Kalkman finished the second game going 3 for 4 with an RBI while
Alysse Luttmann went 4 for 5. Chadwick had a big game, as the junior finished 2 for 4 with five RBI's.
Kailey Hanson went 3 for 4 with two runs scored while
Megan Bunting hit 2 for 4 with two runs scored also.
Southwest Minnesota State improves to 5-3 on the season and will face Saint Joseph's College tomorrow at 12 p.m. CST before playing Queens College at 3 p.m.
