SMSU drops a pair to South Dakota State

MARSHALL, Minn. - 
South Dakota State University scored in all five innings to earn a 10-0 win in game one and followed it with a 2-0 victory in game two for a sweep over Southwest Minnesota State in a non-conference doubleheader at Mustang Field on Wednesday.

SMSU (14-14, 3-3 NSIC) and SDSU (10-14, 1-2 Summit) played for the first time since 2006 in Marshall.

The Division I Jackrabbits took advantage of four SMSU errors and collected 10 hits to the Mustangs five in the first game.

Alex O'Connor (10-7) started for SMSU and suffered the loss, allowing seven runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks and one strikeout.

Kailey Hanson, Jazmyne Neely, Karmann Carroll and Megan Bunting each finished 1 for 2 from the plate in the opener.
 
In the second game, the Jackrabbits scored a pair of runs in the second inning that would go on to earn them the victory.
 
Madisson Chadwick (2-5) started the second game in the circle for the Mustangs and picked up her fifth loss of the season, allowing two runs on eight hits, while recording a walk and a strikeout.
 
Katelyn Kalkman and Neely were the lone Mustangs to record a hit.
 
Southwest Minnesota State will head on its first road trip North this weekend playing U-Mary on Friday with a 1 p.m., start before facing Minot State on Saturday with the first pitch at 12 p.m.
