MARSHALL, Minn. - Southwest Baptist's Karla Jamison scored her third goal of the game in the 91st minute to give the Bearcats a 3-2 overtime-victory over Southwest Minnesota State Sunday afternoon. It was the home opener for SMSU.
Jamison found the back of the net first for SBUin the ninth minute to give the Bearcats an early lead.
Miranda Cadena put the Mustangs on the board with her first goal of the season in the 14th minute after an assist from Kendahl Fisher and Kylie Redmond. Cadena struck again in the 28th minute off the foot of Emily Huddleston to give the Mustangs a 2-1 lead and in the process tied the school record for career points with 79. Nadia AbuAyed (2001-04) also hold with career points record.
The Bearcats fought back and tied the game up in the 58th minute after Karla Jamison put in her second goal after an assist from Caroline Karlsson.
In overtime, Jamison slipped through the Mustang defense to score the winning goal and in the process record a hat trick.
SMSU won the corner kick battle as they tallied eight kicks to the SBU's six. The Bearcats recorded 18 shots to the Mustangs' 13.
Kristy Leopold faced 11 shots and recorded eight saves in the loss.
Southwest Minnesota State moves to 1-2-1 and will return to NSIC play as it heads to Concordia-St. Paul next Saturday and Minnesota State on Sunday. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m.
