Box Score SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—The No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team got off to a good start as it defeated No. 25 Augustana 3-1 by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-15 on Thursday night in both team's Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference openers.
Abbey Thissen had a dominating performance as she tallied a team-high 19 kills while also scooping 16 digs for her third double-double of the season.
Sarah Parker and
Eisha Oden also added to the Mustang offense with 14 and 13 kills, respectfully. The pair also added a combined seven blocks, while
Kenzie Beekman tallied five.
Megan Larson's double-double streak came to an end after she dished out 53 assists to power the offense but did not record a kill.
The Mustang defense, that held the Vikings to a .118 hitting percentage, was led by
Whitney Burmeister with 22 digs while Kayle Burmeister added 13.
Southwest Minnesota State will face No. 8 Wayne State on Saturday in its home opener with the first serve set to be at 4 p.m., from the PE Gym.
