Box Score MANKATO, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team dropped its final game of its road trip, 4-0, to the No. 11 ranked Minnesota State on Sunday afternoon.
The Mavericks started the scoring in the 12th minute after Kiana Nickel found the back of the net. Morgan Cottew recorded the her first career hat trick starting with a goal in the 25th minute to give the Matvericks a 2-0 lead going into the break. Cottew added the final two goals in the 85th and 89th minute to complete the trick.
Minnesota State dominated the shot totals as the Mavericks tallied 19 shots to the Mustangs nine and also the corner kick battle with a four kicks to SMSU's none.
Kristy Leopold played the full 90 minutes in the goal and racked up 10 saves on the 14 shots on goal.
Southwest Minnesota State (2-3-1, 2-1 NSIC) will play host next weekend as the Mustangs welcome Minot State on Saturday for a 12 p.m. start before facing U-Mary on Sunday at 1 p.m. SMSU will be celebrating homecoming next week.
