MARSHALL, Minn. – Minot State's Andrea Franco scored the game-winning goal nearly five minutes into overtime to lead MISU to a 2-1 victory over Southwest Minnesota State in women's college soccer at the Schwan Regional Event Center.
Franco's goal, her second of the season, came off a perfect crossing pass from Chole Melton. Melton finished the game with a pair of assists.
SMSU drops to 2-4-1 overall, 2-2 in the NSIC, while MISU improves to 6-1 overall, 4-0 NSIC. SMSU is now 0-2-1 in overtime games this season.
SMSU suffered a tough setback in the 18th minute as 
Kara Whiting was issued a red card, leaving SMSU a player short for the remainder of the game.
Minot State opened the game's scoring in the 21st minute on a Ninfa Ramirez goal.
SMSU answered back later in the half as 
Megan Kilroy fired a shot that was deflected off an MISU player to tie the game in the 44th minute.
Both teams were held scoreless in the second half with the Beavers collecting five shots, while the Mustangs had two.
Kristy Leopold started in goal for SMSU and played the first half. Brienna Dekhes came on in relief to start the second half and made three saves.
Southwest Minnesota State continues play tomorrow hosting U-Mary at 1 p.m.
