Box Score MARSHALL, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team suffered its third straight conference loss, to the University of Mary 2-1 on Sunday afternoon.
Miranda Cadena broke a pair of records in the loss as the senior started the match scoring in the first 18 seconds off the foot of
Kendahl Fisher. The goal broke the school's fastest goal record that Cadena previously set last season. Cadena's goal also puts her as the all-time career point's leader at SMSU passing Nadia AbuAyed (2001-04)
U-Mary knotted the game up in the 11th minute after Caylin Cathey found the back of the net. Mary broke the tie in the 29th minute after a foul shot gave the Marauders a 2-1.
Both teams tallied 11 shots on goal while the Mustangs dominated the corner kick battle as they racked up 11 kicks—nine in the second half—to the Marauder's two. SMSU also held a 7-6 advantage on shots on goal.
Brienna Dehkes started in goal and suffered the loss and grabbed three saves.
Kristy Leopold came in to relief in the second half and recorded one save.
Southwest Minnesota State will stay at the Schwan Regional Event Center as it hosts St. Cloud State and Minnesota Duluth next weekend. Both games are set to start at 1 p.m.
