MOORHEAD, Minn. — MSU Moorhead put together a 20-1 run midway through the first half to defeat Southwest Minnesota State 75-45 in Northern State Intercollegiate Conference women's basketball in Nemzek Fieldhouse.

SMSU (3-15, 1-11 NSIC) finished shooting 28.6 percent (16 of 56) from the field and 58.8 percent (10 of 17) from the three-throw line. MSUM (12-3, 9-3 NSIC) shot 41.8 percent (28 of 67) from the floor and 82.4 percent (14 of 17) from the charity stripe.

The Dragons dominated the glass with a 54-32 advantage, while scoring 11 second-chance points and 34 points in the paint. SMSU was forced into 17 turnovers, which MSUM converted into 15 points.

Lauren Hedlund led SMSU with 13 points (4 of 11), while
Hope Bonlander added 12 points (5 of 14).
Taylor Holicky paced the defense with six rebounds, while Hedlund, Bonlander and
Annessa Rosch grabbed five apiece.

MSUM grabbed the early lead and built a seven-point lead with 2:56 left to play in the first quarter, but SMSU cut its lead to one with 48 seconds left after 7-1 run. MSUM built its lead back to six before the quarter break to lead 17-11. The Dragons didn't stop there, as they continued their run into the second quarter and capped off a 20-1 run with 1:37 left in the half to lead 32-12. SMSU scored six of its seven points in the last 1:13. MSUM went into the break with a comfortable 36-18 lead.

SMSU shot 22.2 percent (6 of 27) in the half, while making five of seven three throws. MSUM controlled the box as it held a 29-19 rebound advantage and a 16-6 paint-points favor. Bonlander led the Mustangs with seven points, while Rosch pulled down four rebounds.

MSUM continued its control into the second half, as it outscored SMSU 30-11 in the third quarter to build its largest lead of the game at 66-29. The Dragons held a comfortable lead in the final quarter to record a 75-45 victory.
