WICHITA, Kan. – The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team had a strong showing Friday and Saturday at the Wichita Tournament, finishing with a 3-1 record.
SMSU opened the two-day event with an 83-48 win over Arizona State on Friday.
Raymone Brown connected on 12 of 13 field goals to lead SMSU with 25 points and six rebounds.
Joel Adams added 18 points, while
David Evjen chipped in 12 points with a game-high nine rebounds and six assists.
The University of Alabama held SMSU to 28 percent shooting in earning a 73-37 victory in the Mustangs' second game on Friday.
Walter Johnson led SMSU with nine points, while Adams and
Ryan Kile each added eight points. Evjen pulled down team-high nine rebounds.
SMSU closed Friday's action with a 72-52 victory over Auburn University as Evjen scored 22 points on 10 of 15 shooting and also finished with nine rebounds. Brown poured in 18 points and finished with nine rebounds, while Johnson recorded 11 rebounds and six assists. SMSU shot 56 percent in the contest and limited Auburn to 39 percent shooting.
SMSU concluded the weekend on Saturday with a 54-48 victory over Edinboro (Pa.). Evjen notched a double-double for the Mustangs with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Adams added 15 points and dished out eight assists.
SMSU, 9-13 overall, will have off this weekend before returning to play on Jan. 30-31 hosting the SMSU Tournament at the R/A Facility.
