Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Emily Huddleston scores twice to lead SMSU over Minnesota Duluth 4-1

MARSHALL, Minn. - Emily Huddleston recorded her first multi-goal game of her career as she netted two goals in Southwest Minnesota State University's 4-1 win over the University of Minnesota Duluth on Sunday afternoon. The win snaps SMSU's three-game winless streak and moves the Mustangs to 5-8-1 overall, 4-6-1 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-5-3 overall, 4-4-3 in the NSIC.

Amanda Hartmann also had a nice game for the Mustangs as the junior forward finished with a goal and two assists.

Going into the wind in the first half did not slow down the Mustangs as Huddleston scored her third and fourth goals of the season. Amanda Hartmann setup Huddleston beautifully in the 13th minute and Huddleston buried her shot to the lower right corner of the net and past goalkeeper Sisley Ng.

Huddleston beat Ng again less than six minutes later, this time shooting to the top of the net and over Ng. Huddleston lofted the shot from 25-yards out and had enough height to get past the out-stretched arms of Ng.

The goals were Huddleston's third and fourth of the season and her first career multi-goal game.

Right out of the half UMD went to work – cutting the Mustang lead to 2-1 when Hailey Hoff headed a shot for her first goal of the season. Hoff's header was setup by a perfect corner from Anna Morrison.

The Mustangs responded in the 67th minute when Emily Huddleston picked up her fifth goal of the season from 8-yards out. Huddleston cleaned up the garbage after a Mustang shot was blocked that left the goalie out of position.

Morgan Weyer-Coates got in on the action as she netted her second goal of the season as she bended a shot from 15 yards out to push the lead to 4-1.
The four goals were the most scored by the Mustangs since beating U-Mary 5-1 on Oct. 2. SMSU has now defeated UMD four of the last five meetings and now are 3-8 versus the Bulldogs at home.

Jessica Craigmile faced 20 Bulldog shots and made eight saves. Craigmile allowed one goal but recorded her fifth win of the season.

SMSU will hit the road for the next three games starting with weekend contests versus Bemidji State and Minnesota Crookston on Oct. 22 and 23.
