Mustangs earn 11th straight victory in road win over Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—
The second ranked Southwest Minnesota State women's volleyball team stretched its winning streak to eleven straight after defeating Sioux Falls on the road, 23-25, 25-17, 28-26, 25-17.
 
SMSU (17-3, 11-1 NSIC) had four players reach double figures in kills including three double double performances from Taylor Reiss, Kaylee Burmeister, and Megan Larson. Reiss had 18 digs and 20 kills including 7 kills in the decisive fourth set to earn her team leading 10th double double of the season. Burmeister recorded 16 kills and 17 digs en route to her seventh double double of the year while Larson had 10 digs in addition to 59 assists, her second highest assist total on the year.
 
USF won the opening set 25-23 fending off a late rally from the Mustangs that kept the first set close. Eisha Oden had a strong first set for the Mustangs with 7 kills and finished the evening with a match high .571 hitting percentage.
 
The Cougars went up 5-1 to begin the second set but the Mustangs were able to recover from their slow start and evened the set at 7-7 off of a succesful attack from Burmeister. After an SMSU timeout holding onto a 17-15 lead, the Mustangs pulled away to win the second set 25-17 and even the match at one set apiece.
 
The Mustangs came out strong in the third going up 5-0 to start the set. USF took the lead once going ahead 24-23 but the Mustangs were able to pull away late winning 28-26. SMSU came out strong again in the fourth set jumping out to a 5-1 advantage. SMSU never trailed in the decisive set finishing off the Cougars 25-17 in the fourth set.
 
Sioux Falls (12-8, 6-6 NSIC) suffered from 10 service errors and were unable to slow down the Mustangs' attack despite USF's nine team blocks.
 
No. 2 Southwest Minnesota State will host its sixth annual "red-out" match Friday night versus Bemidji State at 7 p.m. followed by another home match Saturday against Minnesota Crookston at 3 p.m.
