CROOKSTON, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team suffered a 1-0 loss after conceding a late goal on the road at Minnesota Crookston Sunday afternoon.
Kallie Gau scored the only goal of the match in the 81st minute and UMC held on in the final minutes to improve its overall record to 3-11-2 (2-9-2 NSIC). The goal came off of a corner for UMC when a missed shot from Ellie Brettschneider found Gau's foot who then scored the rebound to give the Golden Eagles the gamer winner in the dying moments.
SMSU finished with a 14 to 11 advantage in shots and a five to four advantage in shots on goal but were unable to beat goalkeeper, Jacqueline Burke who earned her first career shutout.
The Mustangs will wrap up the 2016 season with two matches next weekend. SMSU will be on the road at Augustana on Friday at 3 p.m., and will then host Wayne State for Senior Day next Sunday at 1 p.m.
