SIOUX FALLS, S.D.— The Southwest Minnesota State women's soccer team were unable to slow down an explosive Augustana attack and fell 5-1 to Augustana in its final road match of the season.
The Mustangs got on the board quick when
Sarah Keppler converted a penalty kick in the 12
th minute to put SMSU ahead 1-0.
SMSU felt pressure on its net for much of the match as
Jessica Craigmile faced 25 total shots, eight of which were shots on goal. Augustana scored four first half goals with two goals in less than one minute in the 31
st minute to put the match out of reach.
Augustana equalized in the 26
th minute off a goal from Grace Behm assisted by Katie Ortgies to even the match at 1-1.
Augustana took the lead in the 31
st minute off of a goal from Allie Marshall to go up 2-1. Augustana was then awarded a penalty less than a minute later which Marshall put away for her second goal of the game to stretch Augustana's lead to 3-1.
The Vikings struck again with a goal from Julie Plansky off of a cross from Samantha Schorzman to give Augustana a 4-1 advantage that they carried into halftime.
Marshall finished off her hat trick with a third goal in the 63
rd minute assisted by Jensen Froehlich to make the match 5-1.
SMSU faced a number of scoring opportunities from Augustana the remainder of the match but conceded no more second half goals.
The Mustangs (5-11-1, 4-9-1 NSIC) will now return home for Senior Day this Sunday at home against Wayne State starting at 1 p.m.
