Mustang wheelchair basketball finishes 3-2 this past weekend

WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team won three of five games this past weekend at the UW-Whitewater Tournament.
 
SMSU, 9-2 on the season, opened play on Friday morning with a 63-46 victory over Academy of Canada. David Evjen finished with a team-high 22 points with Walter Johnson adding 18 points.
 
The Mustangs then followed with a 65-59 win over Missouri on Friday afternoon. Johnson scored 30 points on 14 of 21 shooting, while Evjen added 25 points and 13 assists.
 
SMSU suffered its first loss of the season on Friday night, suffering a 76-54 setback to UW-Whitewater. SMSU had defeated UWW earlier this season. Johnson led the Mustangs with 24 points, while Evjen chipped in with 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.
 
On Saturday, Illinois handed SMSU its second loss in a row with a 67-47 victory. Jon Herdon paced the Mustangs with 18 points and six rebounds. SMSU closed the weekend with a forfeit win over Nebraska-Omaha. Ryan Kile scored 14 points in the game with Herdon added 10 points.
 
SMSU continues play in two weeks competing at the University of Missouri Tournament on Dec. 2-3.
