NORTHFIELD, Minn. – Southwest Minnesota State shot a blistering 69 percent in the second half to pull away and earn an 80-55 victory over St. Olaf College in exhibition men's college basketball on Thursday night at the Skoglund Center.

SMSU finished with a balanced scoring attack in the victory with
Joey Bartlett and
Taylor Schafer each scoring 14 points, while
Michael Lee and
KJ Davis each poured in 12 points.

SMSU connected on 13 of 21 3-pointers in the game with Lee finishing 4 of 4 from behind the arc, while Schafer made 4 of 7 3-point shots.

Bartlett shot 6 of 11 from the field, while Davis made 5 of 8 shot, including both of his 3-point attempts.

Turner Moen led SMSU with eight rebounds and also scored seven points.
Mitch Weg added nine points, while
Ryan Bruggeman chipped in with eight points.

The Mustangs shot 57 percent (31 of 54) overall from the field.

SMSU trailed 9-8 with 13 minutes left in the first half, but used an 8-0 run over the next three minutes, capped by a Davis field goal to build a 16-9 lead.

SMSU held a 29-22 advantage late in the half before Lee connected on a 3-pointer and moments later Moen scored in transition to give the Mustangs their largest lead of the half at 34-22.

Holding a 36-26 halftime lead, SMSU exploded early in the second half to put the game away. The Mustangs used an 18-8 run in the first seven minutes to push the lead to 54-34. SMSU held a 20-point or more lead the rest of the way.

Southwest Minnesota State opens the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 12, with a match-up versus Fort Hays State (Kan.) played at the Stewart Center on the campus of the University of Sioux Falls.
