MARSHALL, Minn. – Mitch Weg scored the game-winning field goal as time expired to lift Southwest Minnesota State to a thrilling 84-82 victory over St. Cloud State in NSIC men's basketball on Saturday night at the R/A Facility.

SCSU's Gage Davis tied the game with a 3-pointer with 29 seconds left to rally the Huskies from an eight-point deficit with less than four minutes remaining in the game. Following an SMSU timeout with 22 seconds left, SMSU's
Michael Lee missed a jumper with four seconds left, but Weg grabbed the rebound and scored as time expired.

SMSU improves to 9-1 overall, 4-1 NSIC, while SCSU drops to 6-6 overall, 3-1 NSIC.

SMSU had five players score in double figures with
Taylor Schafer (15),
KJ Davis (12), Bruggeman (11), Lee (11) and Weg (10) pacing the Mustang offense. SMSU closed the game shooting 49 percent (31 of 63) from the field, including 59 percent in the second half. SMSU connected 9 of 21 3-pointers.

SCSU finished the game shooting 48 percent (29 of 60) and made 8 of 19 3-pointers. Davis led the Huskies with 20 points and 11 rebounds.

The teams played a tight contest in the first nine minutes with SMSU holding a 19-18 advantage. SMSU then used quick 6-0 run behind two field goals by
Carter Kirk and a Davis layup to build a 25-18 lead with 8:55 left in the opening half.

The Mustangs would later build its largest lead of the half with 2:17 at 43-32, before SCSU cut the deficit to 43-36 at halftime.

SCSU tied the game three times early in the second half, including 51-51 with 14:30 remaining, before SMSU regained the lead on a 3-pointer by Lee.

SMSU would push the lead to 71-63 with seven minutes left following a three-point play by Lee. Schafer would give the Mustangs a 77-69 advantage with 3:40 remaining, before SCSU answered with six straight points to make the score 77-75 with 2:30 left.

Lee would connect on a 3-pointer with 1:36 left to give SMSU an 82-77 lead, but SCSU wouldn't go away and eventually tied the game on Davis' 3-pointer.

Southwest Minnesota State will head to the road next Saturday, Dec. 17, playing at the University of Sioux Falls with tip-off set for 6 p.m.
