MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State (1-8, 1-4 NSIC) women's basketball team couldn't keep up with a St. Cloud Huskies team (6-3, 4-1 NSIC) that hit 15 three pointers on its way to a 90-77 victory on Saturday night in the R/A Facility.
The Mustangs shot a season high 50 percent (26-of-52) but suffered from 20 turnovers and gave up 38 total points off of turnovers on the night. St. Cloud State knocked down 15-of-27 three pointers (56 percent) which helped the Huskies pull away late.

Laren Hedlund led the Mustangs in scoring with a career high 27 points and fell just one rebound shy of a double-double.
Caleigh Rodning (12) and
Sarah Buysse (12) also made into double digit scoring for SMSU.

SMSU got off to another strong start in the first quarter shooting 50 percent from the field in the first quarter with a 16-8 advantage in points in the paint. SMSU also held a 12-10 rebound advantage in the opening 10 minutes as SCSU held a 21-20 advantage after one quarter.

SCSU extended the lead to 31-22 five minutes into the second quarter before SMSU rallied with an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to 31-30 following a 3-pointer from
Jamie Spicer with 3:13 left in the half.

SCSU answered with a 12-1 in the next two and a half minutes to take it largest lead of the half at 43-31, before settling for a 43-33 halftime lead.

Lauren Hedlund led SMSU with 12 points in the first half on 5-of-7 shooting.

SMSU came out of the halftime break strong tying the game up twice in the third quarter but were unable to pull ahead. SMSU outscored the Husies 24-16 to trail by just two heading into the fourth.

The Mustangs shot 58 percent from the field in the final period and were within just three at 76-73 with just 3:43 to play. Six fourth quarter treys from the Huskies kept SMSU at bay however as St. Cloud State outscored the Mustangs 31-20 in the final quarter.

The Mustangs will now play Sioux Falls next Saturday at 4Â p.m.
