Mustangs look to snap losing skid this weekend with trips to Augustana and Wayne State

MARSHALL, Minn.- The Southwest Minnesota State University -women's basketball team (1-9, 1-5) looks to snap a four game losing streak as it takes its final road trip of winter break. The Mustangs will first visit Augustana on Friday, Dec. 30, at 6 p.m., followed by a game at Wayne State on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m.
 

BROADCAST INFO

•This weekend's games will broadcast on 105.1 FM KARL with Ryan Rohlik handling the play-by-play for SMSU basketball for the fourth straight season

•The game can also be viewed online at SMSUmustangs.com. 

SERIES HISTORY (Augustana) 

•Augustana leads the all-time series 26-12 in a matchup that dates back to 1969

•Augustana has won the last three meetings including two wins last season (AU won the last game 70-60 in Marshall)

•SMSU's last win came in January of 2015, winning 77071 in Marshall

•SMSU is 3-15 all-time in games played in Sioux Falls

•Wayne State leads the all-time series 32-18 dating back to 1991

•Wayne State has won 14 straight over SMSU

GAME DAY STORYLINES 

•Lauren Hedlund notched her second double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds against USF on Dec. 17

•SMSU has led or been tied with all 10 opponents in free throw attempts so far this season

•The Mustangs shot a season high 81 percent (13-of-16) from the charity stripe against USF

•SMSU will play its first New Years' Eve game since losing to Augustana College 81-61 on Dec. 31 of the 2007-08 season

•Tom Webb is in his first season as the head coach with a 1-9 overall record thus far

•Webb is the eighth head coach in the program's history

• Prior to SMSU, coach Webb spent eight seasons (2008-16) as the head coach at Cameron University (Okla.) compiling a record of 91-123.

ABOUT AUGUSTANA

•Augustana (10-3, 5-1 NSIC) saw a nine game winning streak come to end after a 75-66 loss to Wayne State on Dec. 17

•Augie is first in the conference in scoring offense (78.5 ppg) and third in scoring margin (plus 12.5 ppg) (NSIC games only)

•Logan O'Farrell is averaging 14.4 ppg and 7.2 rpg to lead the Vikings in both categories

•Naomi Rust is also avering double-digits with 10.1 ppg

•Head coach Dave Krauth is in his 28th season as the Vikings' head coach with a 564-249 overall record 

ABOUT WAYNE STATE

•Wayne State (8-3, 3-3 NSIC) is in the midst of a three game winning streak and currently sits alone in sixth place in the NSIC South Division

•Wayne is ranked first in the NSIC in free throw percentage (80 percent) and fifth in field goal percentage (43 percent)

•Paige Ballinger is the top ranked player in the conference in shooting percentage (67 percent) (NSIC games only)

•SMSU was picked to finish 15th overall and eighth in the South Division in the annual 16-team NSIC Preseason Coaches' Poll released in October.
