COLUMBIA, Mo. -- The Southwest Minnesota State wheelchair basketball team opened play at the University of Missouri Tournament on Friday with a victories over Arizona State (83-40) and Nebraska-Omaha (69-58).
In the win over ASU,
Walter Johnson had a huge game for the Mustangs, connecting on 18 of 24 field goals to score 37 points, while grabbing eight rebounds, four steals and dishing out five assists.
David Evjen (18) and John Herdon (15) also scored in double figures.
SMSU finished the game shooting 57 percent (40 of 70) from the field.
In the UNO contest, Johnson recorded a double-double with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Evjen poured in 13 points with eight rebounds and seven assists. Herdon made 10 of 17 field goals and scored 22 points.
SMSU (11-2) will face Wisconsin-Whitewater and Missouri on Saturday morning.
