NWBA National Championship pairings announced

MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University wheelchair basketball team, following a three-week break, returns to action on Thursday, March 10, at the 39th National Wheelchair Basketball Association Intercollegiate National Championships in Edinboro, Pa.
 
SMSU enters the nine-team tournament, which runs from March 10-12, as the No. 6 seed with a 14-16 overall record. The Mustangs will face the No. 3 seed University of Alabama on Thursday, Mach 10, with tip-off set for 12 p.m. at McComb Fieldhouse on the campus of the Edinboro.
 
Alabama has defeated SMSU twice this season, 68-49 on Nov. 21 and 73-37 on Jan. 15.
 
If SMSU wins, they'll play the winner of the Texas-Arlington or Edinboro University on Friday at 4 p.m. If SMSU loses its opening game, it will play on Friday at 10 a.m. against either UT-Arlington or Edinboro. The Mustangs are guaranteed to play three games during the event.
 
The nine teams competing in the tournament include the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Arizona State University, Edinboro University, University of Illinois, University of Wisconsin-Whitewater, University of Missouri, Texas-Arlington and SMSU.
 
The NWBA has held a national tournament since 1977 with SMSU winning national titles in 1981, 1983 and 1986.
 
Wisconsin-Whitewater is in search of its third straight men's title and fifth in the last six years.
