CLERMONT, Fla. — The Southwest Minnesota State softball team continue action at the NTC Spring Games this afternoon with losses to Saginaw Valley State and Edinboro. The Mustangs dropped the first game 6-4, before suffering a 5-3 loss in the final game of the day.

Against SVSU,
Athena Golling (1-3) started in the circle and pitched four innings before being relieved by
Alex O'Connor who closed the game. The pair combined for seven strikeouts, six walks and six runs (four earned).

The Mustangs recorded six hits in the loss, including three homeruns hit by
Taylor Koloc,
Jazmyne Neely and
Mackenzie Clouse. Koloc tallied two RBIs, while Neely and Clouse had one.

Saginaw Valley State started the scoring in the second inning with three runs to grab an early 3-0 lead. SMSU responded with Neely's home run in the bottom of the inning and tied the game in the third following Koloc's two-run shot. SVSU scored runs in the four and fifth innings to take a 6-3 lead. Clouse homered in the bottom of the seventh to try and prime a comeback, but the Mustang fell short 6-4.

Against Edinboro,
Alex O'Connor (2-4) started and hurled 4 2/3 innings, before
Shelby Crank came in as relief and pitched the last 1 1/3 innings. The two combined for six strikeouts, two walks and five runs (four earned).

The Mustangs recorded six hits in the loss, led by Clouse who finished 2 of 3 from the dish.
Taylor Chavez helped the SMSU offense tallying two RBIs, while
Abbie Decker came in to pinch-hit and recorded one. Clouse and Chavez both recorded a double in the loss.

Edinboro controlled the first five innings, scoring five unanswered runs to lead 5-0 after the fifth. The Mustangs finally scored following a double by Chavez that scored a pair of runs. In the seventh inning, Decker singled to right field to score another run and to cut the Fighting Scot's lead to 5-3. SMSU had the bases loaded with two outs, but could not get another run across and fell 5-3.

Southwest Minnesota State (3-10) will close the NTC Spring Games tomorrow taking on Walsh University (Ohio) and Assumption College (MA) at 12 and 2 p.m., respectfully. Both times are CST.
