TUCSON, Ariz. – The Southwest Minnesota State University baseball team concluded its nine-game Arizona road trip with a 6-2 loss to the University of Jamestown on Saturday morning at the Kino Sports Complex.

Jamestown improves to 23-0 with the victory, while SMSU drops to 1-12.

Jamestown starting pitcher Dylan Deavy tossed eight strong innings, recording 13 strikeouts. SMSU batters struck out 15 times in the contest.

The Jimmies started the scoring with two in the first and added another in the fourth to build a 3-0 lead.

SMSU cut into the lead in the top of the eighth as
Jon Leighton dropped in a two-out, two-run single to score
Jayden Fleck and
Derek Branson.

Jamestown answered with three unearned insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-2 advantage.

Davis Bryan (0-2) started on the mound for SMSU and pitched four innings, giving up three runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk.

Erik Throvilson tossed three innings of shutout relief allowing just one hit with three strikeouts. Â

Tanner Picht had two of SMSU's six hits in the game.

Southwest Minnesota State returns to action on Monday, March 21, with a doubleheader at Northwestern College (Iowa) in Orange City. SMSU will then open NSIC play on March 25-26 hosting Northern State for a four-game series at Alumni Field.
